If you see people with a lit fire or barbecue on a nature reserve

Above: part of a wildfire in Stanmore Common in 2022. Seen by a passer by and dealt with by the fire brigade, it could have been much worse.

Fires and barbecues in parks and open spaces in Harrow are prohibited by byelaws. People responsible can now be fined under Harrow's new Public Space Protection Order.

In summer while grass and undergrowth are dry fires are highly likely to spread causing significant damage and killing many wild animals and plants.

If you see people lighting fires please email <Priority.Enforcement@harrow.gov.uk>; marking the email as "Urgent". Copy the email to <admin@harrowncf.org>. Harrow Council writes "The Enforcement Support team can pass on the information to our street enforcement team, APCOA, to see if they have an officer nearby who may be able to assist. While we may not always be able to respond to specific incidents, we will task regular patrols when we know issues reoccur in one location."

In peak wildfire season, consider calling 999 and alerting the fire brigade. If they are not busy with an ongoing fire they may well attend a potential problem.
