HNCF logo Conservation action - join us!

As we come out of lockdown we are resuming our conservation activities and inviting volunteers to join us. COVID-19 is still with us and we have protocols to minimize risk, but we now welcome volunteers to improve the natural world while enjoying being in the open air.

During conservation action events we do various jobs from the major, such as felling trees to create grassland rides, to jobs as simple as cutting back bramble from paths or picking up litter. All are useful in keeping the reserves attractive to both wildlife and people. You get some gentle exercise in pleasant surroundings. Tools are provided and volunteers are fully insured. Approximate finishing times are shown but there is no obligation to stay until the end.

The green dots on the sketch map on the left shows the location of the sites. Click on a dot for information on that site including the contact details for the site warden and the location where we will meet.

Do not attend a working party if you have any of the three common symptoms of COVID-19; that is:
  • a high temperature - this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough - this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste - this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Anyone with these symptoms should self-isolate and contact the NHS for the appropriate test kit (at time of writing, this is a PCR test, not a lateral flow test).
