The earth berm to the left is much more recent than Grim's Dyke and was created in Victorian times to mark the boundary of the formal gardens. This is why the woodland to the right is composed of native species, while to the left, in what was the formal garden, can be seen many attractive non native trees including redwoods and cedars.
